چکیده

Abstract The Ambon fault in the northern Banda Arc has capability of generating M w 6.9 earthquake. poses a significant seismic hazard to Island because is located near populous areas, City. Recent seismicity and surrounding areas indicates that this region actively deforming. experienced many damaging earthquakes since 17 th century. However, potential on island remains enigmatic due lack detailed geological information, such as traces, slip rate, paleoseismic history. This study reports preliminary results tectonic geomorphic investigations ground-penetrating radar (GPR) surveys fault. Tectonic features, scarps, warped surfaces, sag ponds indicate late Quaternary activity predominantly shows normal sense motion with dip ~60-70°. related extensional tectonics Sea.

Preliminary Late Quaternary Slip History of the Carboneras Fault, Southeastern Spain

The Carboneras fault is one of three principal Cenozoic strike-slip faults in the Betic Cordillera of southeastern Spain. In this study, we characterize the paleoseismic history of the Carboneras fault by examining the evidence for lateral offset of 85-180 ka ‘Iyrrhenian marine terraces, by dating the left-lateral stream-channel offsets in La Serrata, and by postulating a late Holocene coastal ...

Late Quaternary Extinctions: State of the Debate

Between fifty and ten thousand years ago, most large mammals became extinct everywhere except Africa. Slow-breeding animals also were hard hit, regardless of size. This unusual extinction of large and slow-breeding animals provides some of the strongest support for a human contribution to their extinction and is consistent with various human hunting models, but it is difficult to explain by mod...
